For He spoke, and it was done; He commanded, and it stood fast.
Psalm 33:9
Words have power. I’m pretty sure a lot of people have heard or said this before but I wonder how many actually believe it and live by it?
When my kids were younger, I used to tell them that the words you speak are like little soldiers that come out of your mouth and get to work on whatever it is you are declaring.
The bible tells us that life and death are in the power of the tongue and those who love it will eat its fruit. Once you realize the power of your words, you won’t say just anything. You also will not receive just any word spoken your way.
Having learned this, I have taken it even further and I make a conscious effort to refute in my mind anything spoken towards my children or me that does not align with the word of God or that is simply negative in nature, even if it’s just a ‘joke’.
The words ‘you are a mess’, ‘you will never amount to anything’, ‘you will never change’ etc. are words that should simply never be said nor accepted when said towards our family or any of us. Instead I choose to speak life, I choose to believe the best.
The bible tells us that what comes out of the mouth proceeds from the heart because the mouth speaks what the heart believes.
Let’s address our heart issues in order to address our speech issues.
Let me ask you this, what are you believing? Are your words uplifting and bringing life to others? Or are you mindlessly bringing curses to yours and other’s lives by agreeing with lies? Is your automatic response in life a negative, doubtful one or is it positive and full of hope? Do you say one thing but in your heart believe something else?
My prayer is that we refrain from all negative speech and erase the lies that were spoken over our lives and replace it with faith-filled, positive, and encouraging words.
Let’s begin to take authority over our lives and believe the truth of who we are in Christ. May we align our words with the real plan God has for our lives.
Be encouraged!
A soothing tongue [speaking words that build up and encourage] is a tree of life,
But a perversive tongue [speaking words that overwhelm and depress] crushes the spirit.
Proverbs 15:4 AMP
