To mock is defined as to disrespect and ridicule in a scornful or contemptuous manner. When we read Galatians 6:7-9, we are quick to point the finger at unbelievers as the ones who mock God. But a lot of times, the most understated or toned down mockery of God comes from those of us in the church.We are guilty of attempting to mock God when we hypocritically pretend to serve Him or pretend to be spiritual or holy but we are not. Inside we have not changed. Our hearts are still the same, deceitful and full of self.
Motives matter. When we do things out of self pride, so others can see how gifted and talented we are, when our motives are to impress people or to be right with men, applauded by them, we are robbing God of His glory.
We deceive ourselves if we think God cannot see our actions and behavior. We may be able to deceive people, but not God. In Revelations 2 and 3 in each letter to the seven churches, God says that He knows our works. God sees our heart and all that is in it – Psalm 44:21.
All different translations of Galatians 6:7-10 tell us the same thing. Here is ‘The Message’s’ interpretation or breakdown:
7-8 Don’t be misled: No one makes a fool of God. What a person plants, he will harvest. The person who plants selfishness, ignoring the needs of others—ignoring God!—harvests a crop of weeds. All he’ll have to show for his life is weeds! But the one who plants in response to God, letting God’s Spirit do the growth work in him, harvests a crop of real life, eternal life.
The bottom line is that we can never make a fool out of God.
If we think that we can sow one thing and reap another, we are attempting to mock God because the very essence of who God is, besides love, is a God of justice. A man will reap what he sows and in the end, every fruit will reveal the seed.

My prayer is that we examine ourselves and invite God to open our spiritual eyes so that we may see what is deceiving us and keeping us from fulfilling His will in our lives. May we ask Him to help us not do things out of vainglory or conceit but instead, may all that we do be to honor Him and that our motives and intentions always be that He gets all the glory.
